Travel has become more accessible than ever with the rise of the internet and many trip options available. But travel is far more than just for holidays or a social media capture; it can change your life in many ways. We have seen it on our past teen adventures, from the heights of our Kilimanjaro trip to the landscapes of Iceland.
There are over 300 million young travelers, with 50% of them taking travels that are more than simply a vacation. Our trips have also shown the many benefits of travel, including our Iceland adventures, Pacific Northwest Adventures, and when we climbed Kilimanjaro.

Our Kilimanjaro Trip
Travel opens a world of possibilities that can push you outside your comfort zone and help you realize what you are capable of. And what better way to do this than scaling the highest mountain in Africa, Kilimanjaro? Here are some of the trip basics:
- 21 Days
- Grades 10th-12th
- Destination: Tanzania
Our Kilimanjaro trip came with many lessons and once-in-a-lifetime experiences, from a safari in Serengeti National Park and community work to reaching the summit of 19,341ft Kilimanjaro and relaxing in Zanzibar.
Kilimanjaro is not only Africa’s highest mountain (and dormant volcano). It is also the highest free-standing mountain in the world, which is possible to climb even for inexperienced mountaineers!
Here are some of the lessons we learned along the way.
It Is All About the Journey
Climbing Kilimanjaro can make you have one goal: reaching the summit. While we do everything to prepare for this task and have experienced on-ground support, climbing a mountain such as this also comes with an invaluable lesson from traveling- it is not only about the destination but the journey too.
Having the courage to get on a flight, explore new cultures, and experience incredible landscapes already brings so much change to perspective. Reaching the top of Kilimanjaro is the icing on the cake. After the trip, many of our favorite memories were from the small moments in between, such as sharing tea after a day hiking or reflecting on all the animals we saw under the starry sky.
99.9% Of People Are Kind
Our Kilimanjaro trip showed us the strength of community, as it takes a community to reach the summit! Visiting youth projects also helped us develop communication skills and grow in confidence in leading group activities. Travel is all about learning about new cultures and connecting with people around the world, which this trip taught us!
Train Your Mind
Undertaking a challenge such as Kilimanjaro makes you realize how capable you are, which will help when you start college or other milestones. This is one of the main lessons and benefits of travel; you grow in confidence, independence, and trust in yourself. It trains your mind to prepare you for other challenges in life, helping you stay centered and confident in facing them.
Iceland Adventure
Our Iceland adventures took us around the land of Fire and Ice. We kayaked in a glacial lagoon, relaxed in the hot springs, and hiked along the Laugavegur Trail, along with many other adventures. Here are the trip basics:
- 8th-10th Grade
- 14 days
Iceland is a unique country that captures the magic of travel. It has over 200 volcanoes and landscapes unlike anywhere else in the world. Here are some of the lessons we learned along the way.
Travel Helps Us Learn New Skills
Iceland offered us the chance to learn new skills in a completely different culture and landscape. We had the opportunity to try many activities, such as kayaking and hiking. We also needed to work well as a team, which helped everyone learn leadership skills and the importance of teamwork.
We Need to Protect Nature
Iceland is one of the best places to visit to open your eyes to the beauty and majesty of the Earth. We had the opportunity to learn about the unique landscape of this country, which was full of surprises. It inspired us to take more care of nature and spend more time outdoors for our own well-being and the Earth’s.
Pacific Northwest Adventures
Travel does not have to be to far-flung destinations. There is also so much to see on your doorstep! Our Pacific Northwest Adventures capture the diversity of the US and how much there is to see.
We have two different Pacific Northwest Adventures, which are both 18 days long. Read on for some of the lessons we have learned from these adventures!
Travel Fosters Friendship
Travel is full of awe-inspiring moments, challenges, and everything in between. Experiencing these adventures in a group helps support you through the entire process.
One of the biggest lessons from these travels has been the incredible friendships you create when traveling, supporting you through the next adventures in your life. You share all the highs and lows together, which makes the community as special as the destination.
All You Need to Do Is Show Up
Show up with an open mind, and travel will provide! Our Pacific Northwest Adventures allows us to try new skills, such as surfing, which can initially feel daunting!
However, the key is to remember it is for fun, and when you begin learning skills this way, it makes the process much more enjoyable! It also helps to find a supportive organization to travel with, so you can have peace of mind that everything is organized for you and all you need to do is show up.
