Mia

Trip Leader: Bold West 1

Mia grew up on a small island close to Seattle called Vashon Island. She attended the University of Oregon for college where she received a degree in advertising and environmental studies. Outside of studying, Mia spent her time rock climbing, coaching gold medal-winning special Olympics teams, practicing yoga, running half marathons, and exploring Oregon’s forests. In her summers, Mia discovered her love for water through her job as a kayak tour guide on her home island. She can talk about moon jellyfish and harbor seals for hours.

During her junior year, she spent six weeks backpacking in one of her favorite places in the world: the big island of Hawaii. She earned college credit while swimming with manta rays, hiking across lava fields, learning traditional Hawaiian agricultural techniques, and befriending many geckos. After graduating from college, Mia worked for a climate media group to promote climate advocacy through documentaries and newsletters. This year she has been working as an English language teacher in Madrid, Spain. She is certified as a Wilderness First Responder and excited for her first summer with Bold Earth!
